Debunking the Myth: What Those White Spots on Your Nails Really Mean

For years, many of us were told that those small, milky white spots (known as leukonychia) on our nails were a sign of calcium deficiency or a vitamin problem. This is almost always a myth!

The True Cause: Micro-Trauma: The vast majority of these spots are caused by minor trauma to the nail matrix (the area just under the cuticle where the nail is formed). This trauma disrupts the keratinisation process:

  • Accidental Knocks: Hitting your hand, even mildly, can cause these spots weeks before they grow out onto the visible nail plate.

  • Aggressive Cuticle Work: The most common culprit is often overly aggressive cuticle pushing or picking, which damages the nail as it's being created.

The Satomi Nails Connection: Our precise E-File Manicure technique is designed to prevent this micro-trauma. By gently removing only the dead tissue without aggressively pushing or disturbing the live matrix, we ensure your nail grows out smooth and flawless.

Understanding these nail health facts is crucial. If you see white spots, the culprit is usually impact, not diet.
