Nail Health Basics: How to Maintain Healthy Nails Between Appointments

Good nail health isn’t just about what happens in the salon — it’s what you do in between.

Here are the habits Satomi recommends to her Auckland CBD clients to keep nails healthy, polished, and strong between appointments.

1. Oil Your Cuticles Every Day

This prevents:

  • lifting

  • dryness

  • peeling

  • cracking

Hydration is one of the most important parts of nail health.

2. Wear Gloves When Cleaning

Dishwashing liquids and cleaners weaken gels and dry out the nail plate.Gloves preserve your manicure for longer.

3. Don’t Pick or Peel Gel

Peeling removes layers of your natural nail.If you have lifting or a chip, book a repair — Satomi prefers to fix it gently.

4. Keep Nails Dry Before Bed

Water softens the nail plate.Make sure nails are dry before applying oil and going to sleep.

5. File Small Snags Gently

Use a fine file to smooth the edge.Don’t clip or pull — it can cause breaks.

Small habits create long-term nail health. With consistent care and scheduled appointments, nails stay strong and elegant for weeks.
